Parliamentary Committee on Public Accounts has decided to investigate negligence involved in the case to compensate Noomadi Resorts and Residencies.
Noomadi sought compensation from the state after the previous administration terminated the contracts signed with the company to develop housing units in multiple islands. Having initially sought a compensation of USD 155 million, Noomadi later reached a settlement agreement with the administration for USD 55 million.
During the meeting of Parliamentary Committee on Public Accounts, most members pointed to the role of former Minister of Housing and Infrastructure Dr. Mohamed Muizzu who testified for Noomadi in arbitration. Members of the committee accuse Dr. Muizzu of providing false information to the committee and has called for action against him and others found to be negligent in the case.
