Construction of 4,200 housing units will begin this year: President

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated the project to construct 4-thousand-200 social housing units in Hulhumale' would begin this year.

Speaking at a press conference held at the President's Office, President Solih said 5-thouand social housing units to be built across the country are currently in a bidding process. In this regard, the president revealed a company would soon be contracted to construct 4,200 housing units in Hulhumale'. He added the administration would charge a low rate of just USD 387 for a two-room apartment and USD 452 for a three-room apartment as part of his pledge to provide affordable housing to Maldivians.

Highlighting the social housing units built by the previous administrations cannot be provided at a cheaper rate and the insufficient floor space of the apartments, President Solih revealed the administration might have to subsidise the payments to decrease the price a tenant has to pay.
