Tuition free degree programme provided for 2,500 students

Ministry of Higher Education has revealed about 2,500 students have been provided with the certificate to join tuition free degree programmes.

Students have now been informed the course fee will be allocated as part of the tuition free degree programme initiated by the administration, according to higher education ministry. While over 3,500 students submitted applications to join the programme, the ministry said 2,500 students have so far been selected. The ministry also stated once the colleges and universities send the invoices, funds will be transferred to the respective institution.

The scheme offer total course fee for education programmes from Maldives National University (MNU) and a certain percentage of the course fee for students from private colleges and institutions. USD 220 million have been allocated for the education sector in 2019, which is the highest amount ever to be allocated for the sector.
