President appeals to slash down expenses for water

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has appealed to slash down expenses for water by using the supply water distributed by Male' Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC). The president made the call delivering his remarks at the ground breaking ceremony to establish water and sanitation system in Hulhumale’ Phase 2.

Noting although 99 percent of Maldives is water and the remaining 1 percent is land, President Solih expressed the scarcest resource in Maldives is clean water. Highlighting a large amount from the state budget is spent on proving safe water for citizens, the president said one problem which is directly connected to the lives of the people is lack of safe water.

Furthermore, President Solih said it is important to utilise environment friendly mediums to generate water, since Maldives fight against climate change and protection of environment. In this regard, he also called to collect rain water when possible.

Shedding light on the safe water situation in some islands, President Solih underlined without any discrimination safe water and sanitation will be ensured to all parts of the country. Moreover, the president noted water and sanitation project in Hulhumale' Phase 2 is part of the initiation. Additionally, he spoke on his vision and end product of the project, appealing to reduce plastic bottles among others.

On conclusion, the president reiterated his appeal to drink water supply distributed by MWSC assuring its safe and highlighting it is cheaper than bottled water.
