President inaugurates project to establish water and sanitation in Hulhumale' Phase 2

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has inaugurated a project to establish water and sanitation system in Hulhumale' Phase 2.

Addressing the ground breaking ceremony held at Hulhumale', President Solih described the project as the biggest conducted in Maldives. Revealing about 24,000 households will be built in Hulhumale' Phase 2, the president expressed hope the project will conclude before the end of next year, when people settle in the area. He added the project is shaped in a way to ensure it will not burden the state budget.

Speaking at the ceremony, Managing Director of MWSC Adam Azim revealed initially the project was expected to cost USD 42 million. However, the total cost of the project has been cut down to USD 15 million, according to managing director of the state-owned utility company. He revealed the completion of the project will ensure water and sanitation for a population of 160,000.

While the equipment for the project will be delivered by Japan's Hitachi Capital Corporation, the remaining expenses of the project will be borne by Male' Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC).
