Government invites bids for development of Hembadhoo harbour

The government has invited interested parties to submit bids for the development of a harbour in Hembadhoo in Noonu Atoll.

International bids have been invited, to design and build the harbour, according to Ministry of Finance. Hembadhoo is an island that has been facing several difficulties in loading and unloading cargo and passengers due to the absence of a proper harbour.

Four of the past administrations pledged to develop a harbour at the island, to no avail. The current administration has earmarked over USD 1.326 million in the state budget for the construction of a harbour in Hembadhoo. The administration has also pledged the development of a fresh water system at the island.
