MDP will not support to postpone parliamentary elections

Main ruling party, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has revealed it will not support to postpone the parliamentary elections to be held next Saturday.

MDP made the statement in the wake of rumours the opposition parties are seeking to postpone the elections to a later date. However, MDP has said there are no grounds to postpone the elections, adding such a decision would not have its support. MDP further said postponing elections have become a trend for the opposition parties, noting the main ruling party never supports such attempts to influence elections.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has also expressed the administration would not support any attempt to disrupt the elections to be held on April 6.

Meanwhile, Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM) has maintained there are no grounds to postpone the elections, adding the electoral body has been following the procedures in accordance with the laws and regulations.
