President expresses confidence on solving housing woes

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has expressed confidence all housing needs of the whole population would be solved under his administration. The president made the statement in an interview with a local media station.

Noting an adequate housing needs assessment has not been conducted in Maldives in the past, President Solih highlighted the efforts of the administration to conduct such an assessment. He said that even under current estimates, roughly 20,000 families are in need of housing across the country.

The president said, in this demographic, an estimated 4,000 people are residing in Male' City. He said confirmed figures would be revealed once the housing needs assessment is completed.

However, the president assured under his administration, housing needs of the whole population would be solved. He also vowed to ensure social housing would be affordable. On this note, the president noted the rent from three room apartments would be between USD 325 and USD 390.

It is a pledge of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to build an addition 4-thousand housing units in Hulhumale' and provide shelter at an affordable rate.
