New radar systems installed in VIA to boost air traffic controlling

Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has assured the new radar systems installed in Velana International Airport (VIA) will boost air traffic controlling.

The new radar installed is a Mode-S radar. The radar with the latest technology is capable of identifying and correlate aircraft in Maldivian airspace selectively, according to MACL. Moreover, MACL revealed the radar is capable to interchange Air Traffic Control (ATC) coordination information via its established data link.

MACL said the new radar system will ease the process controlling air traffic during landing and take-off.
