Environment Ministry to slash electricity tariffs

Ministry of Environment has assured it would slash electricity tariffs before March 28. Cutting down electricity tariffs is included in the first 100-day pledge policy to reduce the amount spent by citizens on utilities.

Speaking with PSM News regarding the matter, Director General of the Environment Ministry Ahmed Ali said the surveys and discussions regarding the reduction of electricity tariffs have been concluded. Environment Ministry revealed the final draft of the plan on tariff reduction will be forwarded to President's Office. Ahmed Ali assured discussions were held with all stakeholders including all relevant authorities such as President's Office, Environment Minister, State Electric Company Limited (STELCO), Fenaka Corporation and Male' Water and Sewerage Company.

Although the specific prices have been disclosed, Environment Ministry assured the prices will be reduced. Ahmed Ali said the prices will be announced once they are finalised.
