President launches Policy on Graphic Health Warning Labelling on Tobacco Products

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has launched the Policy on Graphic Health Warning Labelling on Tobacco Products.

The policy was launched at a ceremony held at Maldives National University (MNU), as part of the efforts to aware the public on the harmful consumption of tobacco and to encourage the public to refrain from tobacco consumption.

Addressing the ceremony, Deputy Director of Health Protection Agency (HPA) Hassan Mohamed stated while cigarettes are kept in shops for all to see, people are mostly unaware of the damages caused by tobacco products.

Creating awareness on tobacco consumption is a pledge included in the first 100-days of the administration. The administration has aimed to implement the Tobacco Control Act in accordance with the World Health Organisation Framework Convention on Tobacco Control.
