LGA to ease actions against 78 councillors

Local Government Authority (LGA) has decided to ease actions taken against 78 councillors and to reissue their salaries. LGA made the decision following the request of many councillors and after investigating the cases separately by a committee formulated by the authority.

The cases against 40 councillors were completely nullified, while the actions on 37 councillors have been eased, according to LGA. The authority has decided to revive the salary of 77 councillors who were suspended for 1 or 3 months without any financial benefit from the state. In addition, LGA decided to grant the salary of two months to one councillor.

Minister of Home Affairs Imran Abdulla noted the ease on suspensions is proof of the importance attached by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih towards decentralisation. The administration has also initiated efforts to amend the Decentralisation Act.
