Maldives appoints goodwill ambassadors for PwDs

The International Day of Disabled Persons aims to promote the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities in all spheres of society and development, and to increase awareness of the situation of persons with disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life.

At the official ceremony held to observe the International Day of Disabled Persons, Minister of Gender and Family, Zeneysha Shaheed Zaki appointed three goodwill ambassadors to work for the betterment for the persons with disabilities.

Zihnath Hassan, Ansam Ahmed and Mariyam Fazny were appointed as goodwill ambassadors for a two year term. The ambassadors have been actively engaging in the sector and have shown exemplary efforts for the betterment of the Maldivian disabled persons.

In the ceremony, certificates were conferred to participants who have completed the basic and the advanced sign language courses.

Minister of Health Abdulla Nazim, Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Mohamed Asim and non-governmental organisations working for the betterment of Persons with disabilities were in attendance at the ceremony.
