Maldives President Establishes Embassy in Qatar

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has established the Embassy of Maldives in Qatar.

Announcing the decision, the President’s Office said the Embassy of Maldives in Qatar will be administratively overseen by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Embassy of Maldives in Qatar, instituted in accordance with the authority conferred upon the President by the Constitution, was established to enhance bilateral relations and promote the political, economic, educational and military ties between the two countries, the office said.

The directive issued by the President's Office outlined the work assigned to the Maldives Embassy in Qatar. It also mentions the official name of the establishment.

Maldives established diplomatic relations with Qatar on 26 May 1984. Maldives briefly severed ties with Qatar on 5 June 2017 before re-establishing relations on 6 January 2021.
