Home Ministry grants USD 195,000 for small scale programmes

The Ministry of Home Affairs grants about USD 195,000 to island councils to conduct small scale development programmes. Under the grant aid, island councils will carry out 14 different programmes for the development of youth and the community.

Speaking at a special ceremony held to present the documents of the grant aid, Minister of Home affairs Azleen Ahmed stated that government prioritises the social enhancement and welfare in the island communities. Home Minister Azleen Ahmed added that the small scale development programmes initiated by the President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom have been successful. The Home Minister assured that similar grants will be given in the future and the government aims to provide aid to all the island communities.

The aid was granted after evaluating 78 proposals, according to the Ministry. The island councils will carry out different economic, social and development programmes with the help of the grant. The development programmes conducted under the grant aid must be completed within a span of one year.
