President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has appealed to the Maldivian diplomats to promote the country as a sovereign nation which supports and practices moderate Islamic values.
The President made the remarks while speaking at the annual meeting of Heads of Missions of Maldives, which began in Hotel Jen on Wednesday morning. The two-day meeting held by Ministry of Foreign Affairs aims to broaden the responsibilities and roles of the Maldivian diplomats and diplomatic missions.
Noting that misleading information being spread in the international community on the matter, the President urged ambassadors to inform the international community of the country’s strict zero tolerance towards acts of terrorism and radicalism.
President Yameen said even though Maldives respects all other countries, the foreign policy will be drafted in ways to safeguard the country's sovereignty and peace.
He further added that Maldives will work with all countries and international organizations as long as they respect the independent values and principles of Maldives.
