CIF value of goods imported in February increases

The CIF value of goods imported during February increases by 29% compared to February last year.

According to the Maldives Customs statistics approximately MVR 2.4 billion worth of goods were imported during February 2016, whereas this year the figure was recorded at MVR 3.1 billion. Among the top importing countries, China recorded the highest with 18% and United Arab Emirates listed at 2nd.

The total revenue collected through customs duty and other fees and fines during February 2017 showed an increase of 94% compared to that of February 2016. A total of MVR 333 million was collected through Customs duty last month.

The FOB value of goods exported during last January increased by 12% to that of the same period last year, which is an increase from MVR 334 million in February 2016 to MVR 373 million in February 2017. An increase of 45% of exports of locally produced goods was shown in February 2017. The largest quantity of the exports was exported to Thailand which is 51% of the total exports for the month of February.
