SriLankan Education Minister concludes official visit to Maldives

Minister of Education of Sri Lanka Akila Viraj Kariyawasam has concluded his official visit to the Maldives.

Sri Lanka's Education Minister visited Maldives on the 9th of this month on a special invitation by the Minister of Education of Maldives Dr. Aishath Shiham, making him the first Education Minister from Sri Lanka to visit the Maldives since the introduction of multi-party democratic system in 2008.

During the four day visit to the Maldives, Minister Kariyawasam visited some of the schools in Male' City, the capital of Maldives, and met with the senior members of the local education sector. He also held a special discussion with the Minister of Education Dr. Aishath Shiham and the senior members of the ministry. During the meeting between the Ministers, discussions were held to further develop the close relationship and improve the education sector of Maldives and Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka has been the biggest contributor to the local education sector and has the single largest number of Maldivian students studying abroad, according to statistics.
