Addu City Council on Friday conferred "Addu Award 2016" to 130 individuals.
This is the first time Addu City Council has conferred such an award. The award recognises achievements and outstanding contributions of individuals from Addu Atoll for the advancement of both the atoll and the nation, according to Addu City Council. The award which will be conferred every three years.
President of the Anti-Corruption Commission, Hassan Luthfee, who was the chief guest at the ceremony, said Addu City has produced numerous intellectuals and talented individuals who have made the city and the country proud through their various achievements and services.
Speaking at the event, Mayor of Addu City Abdulla Sodiq said the recipients of the awards are exemplary citizens, and others should follow their footsteps.
