STELCO prioritising service quality, management excellence

Enhancing the quality of utility services across the islands and strengthening internal management remain the top priorities for State Electric Company Limited (STELCO), Managing Director Dr Ali Azwar has announced.

Azwar made the remarks during the inauguration of a comprehensive training programme organised for station managers and interim powerhouse heads from Baa Atoll, Lhaviyani Atoll, Meemu Atoll, and Huraa, Kaafu Atoll—regions where STELCO has recently assumed utility service operations.

Highlighting STELCO’s role as a major partner in national development, Azwar praised President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s decision to expand high-standard utility services nationwide after listening to the needs of island communities. To facilitate this rollout, dedicated internal survey teams have already been deployed to ensure a smooth transition and reliable delivery.

"Improving the quality of service provided in the islands, reducing expenditure in various ways, and operational efficiency are achievements I view as significant milestones on a national scale. In that sense, I believe this is a crucial step taken by the government,” he explained.

Reflecting on STELCO’s 75-year legacy, Azwar emphasised that the company’s strong public reputation has been built through decades of dedicated employee service. He urged newly appointed station managers to uphold these historical standards and maintain close, collaborative relationships with local island communities.

The intensive training programme, held from the 20 to 22 September, was designed to equip local leaders with the skills needed to run island powerhouses with full reliability, responsibility, and adherence to corporate regulations. Key components of the curriculum provided guidance on administrative, technical, financial, safety, and operational management, while fostering better cross-departmental communication and empowering managers to resolve workplace challenges efficiently.
