President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has offered condolences following the death of Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, brother of UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
In a condolence message shared on social media, President Muizzu conveyed his sympathies to the UAE Prime Minister.
The President prayed for the soul of the late Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to be granted the highest place in Jannatul Firdaus.
On behalf of the Maldivian government and people, and in his personal capacity, President Muizzu also extended condolences to Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, his family, the UAE government and its people.
The Dubai Media Office announced that Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum died today at the age of 76.
Following his death, the Dubai Ruler's Court announced a 10-day period of official mourning in Dubai, beginning Monday. During the mourning period, flags in Dubai will be flown at half-mast.
Sheikh Ahmed was born on 12 July 1950 in Bur Dubai. He was the fourth and youngest son of former Dubai Ruler Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum.
He held several prominent positions and was recognised for his contributions at both the national and international levels. His positions included Deputy Chairman of Dubai Police and Public Security, Chairman of A.R.M. Holding, Chairman of Dubai Real Estate Centre, and Chairman of Al Wasl FC, a prominent club in the UAE Pro League.
