The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Iruthisham Adam has convened a high-level meeting with Maldivian ambassadors and heads of diplomatic missions stationed abroad to review ongoing operations and outline the administration's strategic diplomatic roadmap.
During the meeting, held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Minister Iruthisham emphasised the pivotal role overseas missions play in driving President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s "Maldives-First" foreign policy. Under this approach, the Maldives remains committed to collaborating with any nation or international body that respects Maldivian sovereignty and is dedicated to advancing the interests of the Maldivian people. The Minister stressed that foreign envoys serve as the frontline in translating this policy into tangible diplomatic outcomes.
A key focus of the discussions was economic diplomacy, with Minister Iruthisham urging diplomats to prioritise marketing Maldivian tourism and highlighting lucrative investment opportunities to foreign partners. Envoys were encouraged to actively engage host nations to promote growth across key economic sectors and explore new avenues for bilateral trade and development.
The Foreign Minister called on the heads of missions to deepen diplomatic ties with their host countries, secure advantageous opportunities for national growth, and maintain a strong focus on citizen welfare by delivering prompt, high-quality consular services to Maldivians residing in or visiting abroad.
