President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim have held official talks focused on strengthening bilateral and multilateral cooperation and exploring new avenues for partnership.
The talks were held during Prime Minister Anwar’s state visit to the Maldives, at the invitation of President Muizzu.
The two leaders discussed ways to further strengthen cooperation between the Maldives and Malaysia, while reinforcing the strong ties built over 58 years of diplomatic relations.
The discussions also focused on identifying new areas for partnership and expanding cooperation in the international arena.
During the visit, the leaders also witnessed the signing of memoranda of understanding in two key areas aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation. These were defence cooperation and islamic affairs.
The Maldives and Malaysia established diplomatic relations 58 years ago and have since developed close ties through high-level exchanges, people-to-people links and cooperation in various areas of development.
