VMC and Maldivian discuss expanding tourism and air travel

Visit Maldives Corporation (VMC) and Maldivian have held discussions on ways to further expand the Maldives’ tourism and air travel sectors.

Managing Director of Maldivian Ibrahim Iyas and Managing Director of Visit Maldives Corporation Abdulla Yasir took part in the discussion. The discussion was centered on both companies working together to expand air travel and ways both parties can further advance the tourism sector.

The two companies also discussed adding new destinations to Maldivian’s network and ways to market these destinations. In addition, they discussed ways to further improve services for tourists visiting the Maldives, according to Maldivian.

Maldivian currently operates flights to international destinations, including Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram in India, with five flights per week to each destination. The airline has decided to increase this to six flights per week from December.

Maldivian currently operates two weekly flights to Bangladesh, one weekly flight each to Beijing and Chengdu in China, and one weekly flight to Melbourne, Australia.

According to statistics released by the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation, 1.4 million tourist have visited the Maldives so far this year.
