President Dr Mohamed Muizzu said that he would look into the matters highlighted during this week's edition of Rayyithunge Adu programme and was working to find comprehensive solutions to the housing and other problems faced by the public.
Many citizens who took part in this week’s edition of the programme, launched to give people an opportunity to speak directly with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, shared their concerns with the President. Housing and healthcare were among the issues most frequently raised.
During the fourth edition of Rayyithunge Adu, many of the citizens who met with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu highlighted issues related to housing. These included the case of a woman who received a letter confirming that she had been allocated a Hiyaa flat before her husband’s death, but was not subsequently given the flat following his death. Others raised cases involving people who have lived in Malé for many years but, for various reasons, do not meet the eligibility criteria for housing schemes.
Responding to the issues raised by the citizens, President Muizzu said that he would look into the matters highlighted and was working to find comprehensive solutions to the housing and other problems faced by the public.
“If we have the will, we are working to find a solution to the housing problem. If there is a desire for a proper solution, we will deliver one. This work is ongoing. Whether it is land or flats, I hope that within the next two years, along with the many projects that are underway, we will achieve good results in providing housing,” the President said.
In addition to housing, some participants also shared concerns about the healthcare sector with the President. Among the issues raised were the need to expand healthcare services in line with the population of the Malé area, as well as concerns related to Aasandha.
President Muizzu said that healthcare is also an area to which he attaches great importance, adding that work is under way to increase the number of employees in the sector and improve healthcare services through GP clinics. He also said that efforts were being made to bring positive changes to the healthcare sector during his administration.
“The reason we have to spend so much on Aasandha is that we do not have the capacity or quality to provide services to everyone in the Maldives at the same level and at the same time. Therefore, I am giving very high priority to the health sector. If we have the will, during this term, as you have highlighted, we have also identified areas such as Sh. atoll, Funadhoo and Ungoofaaru. Work is also being carried out to enable treatment for a number of important illnesses on various islands. The most important aim of this is to provide these services within the Maldives without having to go abroad,” the President said.
Other issues raised by citizens during 'Rayyithunge Adu”'included the success of the Government’s efforts to promote small businesses, challenges faced in finding employment, and concerns related to e-sports.
President Muizzu assured the citizens that he would work to find solutions to the issues they had raised. He also said that going forward, he would work to deliver progress across various sectors.
