RDC trains technical staff for new heavy vehicle fleet ahead of deployment

The Road Development Corporation (RDC) has trained a large number of technical personnel to operate and maintain its newly acquired fleet of heavy vehicles.

The fleet, comprising 230 vehicles, was brought into the Maldives during the first week of this month as part of efforts to accelerate infrastructure development across the country.

A total of 108 staff members, including vehicle operators and maintenance teams from both Malé and the atolls, have completed training, according to RDC. The programme included both theoretical instruction and practical sessions, with hands-on training conducted in Thilafushi.

The corporation said it is currently identifying islands and projects where the vehicles will be deployed, with an initial batch set to be sent to 20 locations.

RDC also noted that vehicle registration is in its final stages, after which deployment will begin.

The fleet includes excavators, forklifts and dump trucks, as well as four tar plants, comprising one 80-tonne unit and three 40-tonne units, to support road development. The equipment was imported through a Chinese company.

In addition to supporting ongoing RDC projects, the vehicles are expected to be utilised in development work across the islands where they are deployed.

Authorities have also indicated that priority will be given to establishing utility services in key development areas, with projects being carried out in collaboration with the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).

The large-scale import and training initiative is part of broader government efforts to expedite infrastructure projects nationwide.
