Voting for the second round of the Local Council Elections and the Women’s Development Committee (WDC) elections has officially commenced, with the Elections Commission confirming that polling will take place today from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
This round is being held across five constituencies. These include the election for the women’s reserved seat on the Dhonfanu Council in Baa Atoll, as well as the election of a councillor for the Dhadimagu constituency in Fuvahmulah City, which is also designated for a female candidate.
In the WDC elections, the second round will determine the President of the Kelaa Women’s Development Committee in Haa Alif Atoll, alongside committee members for Neykurendhoo in Haa Dhaalu Atoll and Maavah in Laamu Atoll.
A total of 14 ballot boxes have been established for this round, located within the respective constituencies and in Malé City. The Elections Commission has allocated two ballot boxes each to Kelaa, Maavah and the Dhadimagu district of Fuvahmulah, while one ballot box each has been assigned to Neykurendhoo and Dhonfanu.
According to the Commission, 6,093 individuals are registered to vote across these constituencies. This includes 1,729 voters in Kelaa, 1,056 in Neykurendhoo, 441 in Dhonfanu, 1,556 in Maavah, and 1,311 in the Dhadimagu ward of Fuvahmulah.
In Malé City, six ballot boxes have been arranged to facilitate voters from these constituencies. Ballot boxes for Kelaa and Dhonfanu are located at Thaajuddeen School, while those for Neykurendhoo and Maavah are stationed at Hiriya School. Additionally, the ballot box for the Dhadimagu ward of Fuvahmulah has been placed at Dharumavantha School.
