The development of the area from Henveiru Ferry Terminal to Izzuddin Jetty is expected to be completed by June, Minister of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure Dr Abdulla Muththalib has said.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu visited the site to inspect the progress of works on Boduthakurufaanu Magu. The visit was attended by Minister Muththalib and Chief Executive Officer of the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), Ahmed Saudee.
Work is currently under way on the section from Henveiru Ferry Terminal to Fishermen’s Park.
Providing an update, Minister Muththalib said the road will be widened by six metres, with work ongoing on road drainage and utility infrastructure.
“The aim is to complete the work from Henveiru Terminal to Fishermen’s Park within one month, and up to Izzuddin Jetty within three months by June,” he said.
The minister also noted that a parking zone with capacity for 500 cycles will be developed in front of the City Garden. A key wall will be installed along the road to allow vehicle access.
MTCC CEO Ahmed Saudee said the project is being implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Construction.
“This area has a high concentration of offices. The streets are narrow and present challenges. Despite this, the work is progressing well with the cooperation of the public,” he said.
The distance from Henveiru Ferry Terminal to Fishermen’s Park is approximately 90 metres, while the stretch to Izzuddin Jetty extends to around 700 metres. In total, 610 metres of road drainage canals are being upgraded and developed within the project area.
