First Lady Sajidha Mohamed has stated that women are guiding and exemplary leaders for society and everyone should strive to ensure human dignity, equal opportunities and justice for every woman and girl.
The First Lady said this in a post on social media sending her greetings on International Women's Day.
First Lady Sajida Mohammed said that on International Women's Day, she sincerely appreciates the courage, wisdom and compassion of Maldivian women.
“I celebrate the strength, wisdom, and compassion of Maldivian women who are mothers, daughters, sisters, and leaders who nurture our families, guide our communities, and inspire our nation. Your voices shape our future," she wrote.
Furthermore, she reiterated that everyone should work to ensure human dignity, equal opportunities and justice for every woman and girl. And that everyone should aim to build a society that allows people to fulfill their dreams with justice and respect, instead of restricting them because of their gender.

Annually, March 8 is celebrated as International Women's Day. The theme of this year's celebration is “Rights. Justice. Action. For ALL Women and Girls”
Women's Day is celebrated internationally to promote women's role in economic, political and social affairs, prevent violence against women and promote their rights. Historically, this day was first celebrated in 1911.
