Ministry of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development has confirmed that it intends to hold a conference titled "Global Government Summit on Social Innovation Conference".
The conference is scheduled to be held from May 19 to May 22, in Bandos. Preparation work for the conference is underway.
Speaking at a press conference at the President’s Office, Minister of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development Dr Ali Haidar revealed that the conference will be attended by over 100 labour ministers from different nations along with a large array of international organisations. Furthermore, a special ceremony will be held to honor the tireless work of both employers and employees in July, which will also be a landmark moment as it will include the inauguration of National Labour Award.
“We are currently working on emulating the social dialogue conference held last year with employers and employees, in this year September aswell. Furthermore, work is being done to hold the ‘Vara” Expo this year aswell. This too is scheduled for September end”, the minister notified.
The Minister further stated that under the strategic objective of eliminating unemployment in the Maldives within the next five years, the government has prioritised the establishment of a robust labour market. This initiative aims to ensure that job seekers are provided with high-quality employment opportunities that align with their educational background, experience, and skill sets. To achieve this goal, the Minister further noted that efforts have been intensified to increase the number of job seekers registering with National Career Services through the official Job Portal.
To date, a total of 60,791 job seekers have registered on the Job Portal. In this year alone, 539 job vacancies were advertised, and 5,875 registered individuals successfully secured employment. Notably, 58.6 percent of those who obtained jobs through this system are women.
