Foreign Ministry issues advisory for Maldivians living in Middle East

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has advised Maldivian nationals residing in or travelling to the Middle East to exercise caution amid escalating tensions and ongoing military operations in parts of the region.

In a statement, the ministry urged citizens to limit outdoor movement where possible and to adhere strictly to guidance issued by local authorities in their respective host countries.

It said it remains in close contact with Maldivian diplomatic missions and relevant embassies across the Middle East to monitor the situation and ensure the wellbeing of Maldivian nationals.

The ministry also called on citizens to register with the nearest Maldivian embassy or consular office to facilitate timely assistance, should it become necessary.

Separately, Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) issued a travel advisory for passengers planning to travel to the Middle East. The airport operator encouraged travellers to seek updated information from their airlines or tour operators before departing for the airport.

The advisories come as tensions continue to rise in parts of the Middle East, prompting several governments and aviation authorities to issue precautionary guidance to their citizens.
