RDC awarded Phase 3 of Thinadhoo's road network modernisation project

Road Development Corporation Limited (RDC) has been formally awarded the contract for the highly anticipated Phase 3 of Thinadhoo City's comprehensive road development project.

The agreement was signed by the Minister of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure, Dr Abdulla Muththalib, representing the government, with RDC Managing Director Ibrahim Nazeem signing on behalf of the corporation.

This pivotal third phase of the Thinadhoo City road development project will see a total of 50 roads developed to contemporary standards. The extensive scope of work includes the complete paving of the roads and the execution of essential drainage works, a critical component aimed at resolving longstanding flooding issues. The project, valued at USD 22.1 million, has been assigned a completion timeline of 1440 days.

Outlining the project's significance, Minister Muththalib emphasised that the development would extend to major roads in newly settled areas of the city.

"When this project is completed in Thinadhoo, it will include major roads in residential areas along with the newly settled area," the Minister said.

Speaking during the signing ceremony, Thinadhoo North MP Saudullah Hilmy noted that unpaved roads are frequently flooded, causing serious public inconvenience.

"This project will provide great relief. Many people are facing difficulties due to flooding on unpaved roads. Hopefully, RDC will start the work without delay and complete the work soon," he said.

The systematic development of all city roads to a modern standard is a key presidential pledge of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.
