Foreign Minister arrives in Geneva for UN Human Rights Council High-Level Week

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Abdulla Khaleel, has arrived in Geneva, Switzerland to participate in the High-Level Week of the 61st session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (HRC61), reaffirming the country’s commitment to advancing and protecting human rights through active multilateral engagement.

Upon his arrival, Minister Khaleel expressed his anticipation for substantive discussions on measures aimed at promoting and protecting human rights. He also highlighted the importance of bilateral meetings with counterparts on the margins of the session, noting that such engagements contribute to reinforcing partnerships and advancing shared objectives.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the Minister will address the General Debate during the session. His participation is expected to reiterate the Maldives’ longstanding position in support of dialogue, cooperation, and the strengthening of the multilateral system.

The Maldives has maintained an active presence at the Council. It is a member of the 2023 - 2025 Human Rights Council, marking the third time for its representation in the UN body.
