The Raajje Transport Link (RTL) high-speed ferry service has officially been inaugurated in Faafu Atoll.
The service was officially launched in Nilandhoo, Faafu atoll by the Nilandhoo Constituency Member for the Parliament, Fathimath Saudha. The ceremony was also graced by the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, Mohamed Ameen, The Managing Director for the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) Ahmed Saudee, The Indian High Commissioner to the Maldives and senior members from the government institutions.
The RTL service will be operated by MTCC. Two dedicated ferries will serve the routes, offering scheduled, high-speed, and affordable transportation. MTCC announced that the first week of service will feature free rides to help communities familiarise themselves with the system, after which ticketing will commence on the 25 February via the RTL website and mobile application. The newly introduced service in Faafu atoll and neighbouring Dhaalu Atoll will operate across three key routes, including an inter-atoll link connecting Nilandhoo (Faafu Atoll) and Meedhoo (Dhaalu Atoll), facilitating seamless travel for residents and visitors alike.
Originally launched in 2022 as a flagship initiative, RTL has already transformed mobility for over 123 islands, and its expansion into Zone 4—encompassing Thaa and other atolls—marks a significant milestone.
