President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that starting next month, he will meet media outlets on the Monday of each week.
As part of the Presidential Address, President Muizzu said that as part of an effort to strengthen ties with the country’s media, he will dedicate an hour each Monday to meet and answer questions.
The press is scheduled for 10:00am – 11:00am every Monday. Additionally, starting next month, a minister would also meet with the media once a week for an hour. The Scheule for these meets will be published by the President’s Office.
“Barring any unforeseen circumstances or travel or a holiday, this arrangement will be continued effectively”, the President said.
The President also revealed that as of the end of last year, the cabinet has given a combined 424 interviews to both local and international medias.
The President also addressed the matter of government transparency, assuring that if a public submits a request for information within the established mechanism, every government institution will provide information pertaining to that matter within the legal framework.
Last year, The President’s Office and government ministries replied to 1,251 Right to Information (RTI) Requests out of a 1,341 submitted. This reflects a responsive rate of 93 percent. The President said work is ongoing to reply to the RTI’s that have not been addressed yet.
