Govt awards contracts for major Islamic infrastructure projects across five islands

The government has awarded contracts for the construction of Islamic centres, mosques, and a Quran center across five islands, marking a significant investment in the nation's religious infrastructure.

The projects, designed to serve as community hubs for worship and education, are part of a broader initiative to develop essential facilities in this field.

As part of the initiative, Central Line Pvt Ltd will construct the Naifaru Islamic Centre, featuring a mosque with a 1,000-person capacity that includes dedicated prayer spaces for both men and women. The centre will be further equipped with ablution facilities, classrooms, a library, and a convention hall. Similarly, Fido Pvt Ltd will develop an Islamic Centre in Ihavandhoo, Haa Alifu Atoll for 700 worshippers, incorporating the same suite of community facilities.

In Villingili, Gaafu Alifu Atoll, K&F Holdings Pvt Ltd has been awarded the contract to build a 700-capacity Islamic centre, while a separate Quran centre project on the same island, awarded to Afami Maldives Pvt, will include classrooms, memorisation rooms, and office space.

Additionally, Afami Maldives Pvt will also construct a 500-person mosque in Gulhi, complete with gender-segregated prayer areas, a classroom, and a library.

This expansive development drive underscores the government's commitment to supporting religious and community needs. The projects align with a larger national effort, which will see a total of 15 new mosques completed and opened in time for the upcoming holy month of Ramadan.
