Criminal Court’s new building speeds up court proceedings

The Criminal Court’s new building in Hulhumale’ has significantly accelerated its work, according to official statistics.

Before the new building was opened, the court handled an average of 72 cases per month. However, this number has now increased to 175 cases per month, a significant improvement of 140 percent.

The data for 2025 show that a total of 1,062 cases were filed at the Criminal Court last year. These cases were assigned to 11 judges, with each judge assigned over 100 cases throughout the year. Pending cases of some judges exceeded 200 cases at the end of the year. In 2025, judges handled an average of 113 cases each, with Judge Ali Nadheem concluding most cases (302) in the year. Judge Hussain Faiz concluded the least with 56 cases.

Including inherited cases from the previous years, the court concluded a total of 1,380 cases in 2025, giving a case decision rate of 130 percent. While the court concluded 649 cases in 2024, this year’s numbers represent a 113 percent increase.
