SIWEC to develop sports infrastructure in nine regions of Maldives

Maldives National Defence Force's Welfare Company also known by its accronym, SIWEC and the Ministry of Sports, Fitness and Recreation have signed an agreement to develop sports infrastructure in nine different regions throughout the Maldives.

The agreement was signed by Minister of State for Sports, Fitness and Recreation, Mohamed Dilshan Abdulla and SIWEC Managing Director Colonel Ahmed Zubair.

Under this agreement, two projects which are set to be carried out in Alif Dhaalu Atoll, namely the changing of the turf for Fenfushi Futsal pitch, and the creation of a handball court at Omadhoo. In addition to this, a futsal ground will be constructed in Kamadhoo, Baa Atoll and Fulidhoo, Vaavu Atoll and a multi-purpose volley court and futsal pitch will be built in Dharanboodhoo, Faafu Atoll.

Also, fence repairs will be carried out for Kanduhulhudhoo, Gaaf Alif Atoll along with a swimming track built for Dhihdhoo, Haa Alif and a football ground created for Makunudhoo, Haa Dhaalu and Veyvah in Meemu Atoll. Furthermore, a lighting system will be set up for the football ground in Nehlaidhoo, Haa Dhaalu.

Nine projects have been signed for Noonu Atoll: the creation of a multi-purpose ground for handball and futsal in Holhudhoo, Lhohi and Velidhoo, a futsal pitch in Kendhikulhudhoo, a football ground in Magoodhoo, outdoor volleyball court in Manadhoo and Lhohi, as well as a fixed lighting system for Lhohi and Miladhoo football grounds.

The development of the Maldives’ sports sector remains a top priority of the government, displayed by the many initiatives to construct sports infrastructure assigned to different companies.
