Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef has praised King Charles III of the United Kingdom for his leadership in promoting international cooperation.
He made these remarks at an official reception hosted by the British High Commission in Male’ to celebrate the birthday of King Charles III.
In his address, the Vice President highlighted King Charles III’s longstanding commitment to environmental protection, sustainable development, and the preservation of cultural heritage, noting that these values strongly resonate with the Maldives. He added that the King’s leadership has fostered a sense of collective responsibility and encouraged international cooperation in addressing environmental challenges.
The Vice President noted that this year marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and the United Kingdom. He stated that the partnership, rooted in sustainable development and cultural preservation, has been further strengthened through recent high-level engagements. These include President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s visit to the United Kingdom, the President’s private audience with the King, and the Vice President’s meeting with the King at the 27th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting last year, underscoring the importance both nations attach to their bilateral relationship.
The Vice President concluded by reaffirming the Government’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with the United Kingdom in support of shared prosperity, security, and sustainable development.
