Discussions were held with the Japan Association of Travel Agents to increase the number of tourists visiting the Maldives from Japan, during a meeting held between Ahmed Mahloof, the Maldivian Ambassador to Japan, and Kuniharu Ebina, the president of the Japan Association of Travel Agents (JATA). Ambassador Mahloof maintained these talks served to further strengthen tourism relations between the two nations.
The dialogue focused on elevating the volume of Japanese tourist arrivals and expanding the promotion of the Maldives within the Japanese market, Ambassador Mahloof explained in a social media post detailing the meeting. "Had a productive discussion with Mr. Kuniharu Ebina, President of the Japan Association of Travel Agents (JATA), on strengthening tourism ties between the Maldives and Japan," he wrote.
Ambassador Mahloof underscored the necessity of fostering robust partnerships between travel agents in both countries. He expressed an expectation that this engagement would serve to solidify tourism cooperation between the Maldives and Japan.
"We discussed JATA’s support in increasing Japanese tourist arrivals to the Maldives, strengthening the promotion of the Maldives in the Japanese market, and building closer connections between travel agents in both countries," Ambassador Mahloof noted. "Looking forward to increased collaboration and stronger tourism cooperation between the Maldives and Japan."
This diplomatic outreach aligns with the administration’s programme to diversify the Maldivian tourism sector. The government continues its efforts to bolster visitor numbers from markets currently providing fewer arrivals to the country, representing a strategic shift in international engagement and sectoral growth.
