The Ministry of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development and the International Labour Organisation (ILO) has discussed the impact of heat stress and climate change on work.

The discussions were held on Wednesday at a meeting attended by relevant government agencies, workers' representative organisations, employers' representative organisations and the ILO.

The discussions centred on a presentation of a study prepared by the ILO, and aimed to provide key information and insights for national policies such as National Determined Contributions (NDCs), Long Term Low Emission Development Strategies (LT-LEDS), and Climate Prosperity Plans (CPP).

The Ministry said the the meeting was held to gather stakeholders’ views on the study’s findings, with participants discussing the impact of climate change on the Maldives’ jobs and productivity, and its wider implications for workplaces, workers, businesses and the economy. The meeting also discussed policies to mitigate the adverse impacts of climate change on workers and businesses.
