Gov’t Awards Project to Build New Classrooms in Ghaazee School

The government on Thursday awarded the project to build new classrooms in Ghaazee School in Hulhumale’ to a local contractor.

The government funded project to add 18 more classrooms to Ghaazee School is designed to address the space constraints faced by the in demand school to accommodate new students.

During a small ceremony at the Ministry of Education, the project worth around USD 1.54 million was awarded to Badhahi Investment Private Limited to be completed within 150 days.

With a student population of around 1,600, Ghaazee School caters to students through Lower Kindergarten (LKG) through Grade 10 and remains one of the most in-demand schools, especially in the reclaimed suburb Hulhumale’.

More than 700 students from the Atolls are expected to transfer to schools in the Male’ area for the next academic year. The Ministry estimates more than 2,000 students to seek enrolment in Grade one and more than 1,800 students for LKG.

In a bid to cater to the ever increasing demand for placements, the government in December last year broke ground for a new school in Hulhumale' Phase II. The school will be built with 54 classrooms to accommodate 1,700 students from Grades 1 to 10.

The Ministry said the construction of the new school is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year, and will be ready to accept students by the start of the new Academic year in January 2026.

The government has plans to build around seven schools in Hulhumale’ to address the placement shortage.
