A total of 224 shops have so far registered on the 'Agumagu' portal, which allows consumers to check the prices of goods available in markets and shops, the Ministry of Economic Development, Trasnport and Trade has said.
The purpose of the Agumagu portal is to make essential food items available to the public at affordable prices. Through the portal, consumers can check the prices of essential food items in one place. The Agumagu portal, which allows users to see how prices of goods in the market compare, was launched on 28 February 2025.
Initially, the portal only displayed prices from shops in Male'. However, the Economic Ministry has now introduced the Agumagu app, through which prices of goods sold in shops across the islands will also be available.
In a social media post, Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed said more than 3,300 people had so far downloaded the Agumagu app. More than 2,700 people use the app on average each day, while 224 shops have registered on the platform so far, the minister noted.
The ministry said the app makes it easier for consumers to view and compare the prices of goods sold at different shops. It also allows users to quickly identify where goods are available at the lowest prices.
According to the ministry, the list of essential food items featured on the portal has been compiled based on standards used by relevant international and Maldivian authorities to determine what constitutes essential food items.
The Agumagu app provides consumers with the latest prices of everyday goods in one place. Users can check the current market prices of items they wish to purchase, as well as the lowest, average and highest prices at different shops.
The ministry also said users can track changes in prices over the past 10 days through the application.
