Infrastructure Targets Revealed in Miladhoo as President Muizzu Presses Ahead with Pledges

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu on Wednesday visited Miladhoo, Noonu Atoll, to meet with council representatives, community leaders and residents, reiterating his administration's resolve to deliver on electoral commitments. The visit reinforced efforts to catalyse infrastructure enhancements and expand public services across the island.

President outlines infrastructure plans with clear timelines

Addressing residents during the visit, President Muizzu delivered a series of reassurances concerning pledged development initiatives. Among the measures he outlined were coastal erosion mitigation and the establishment of a designated swimming area. The president stated that an agreement for coastal erosion mitigation and development of a designated swimming area is expected to be signed with the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) in the coming month. He added that road construction, scheduled to begin around the same time, will be overseen by the Road Development Corporation (RDC).

"Furthermore, ongoing projects are among the initiatives that will be advanced. The work on the water supply network, managed by MWSC [Malé Water and Sewerage Company], is progressing. In the health sector, the healthcare centre construction is nearing completion," the president elaborated. "However, this island's healthcare centre, which provides 16 hours of service, suffers from a shortage of human resources. Specifically, the number of nurses is insufficient. Therefore, following this tour, the [Health] Ministry will endeavour to assign at least two additional technical staff members. We will ensure this is done."

Housing and recreation projects to be shaped by community input

In outlining further plans, the president confirmed that 50 housing units will be constructed in Miladhoo under the newly launched national housing scheme. He said the community would determine whether these units are developed in a shared zone or on individual plots. The resulting tender process, he said, will be guided by that decision.

Plans to strengthen recreational infrastructure were also discussed. President Muizzu stated that the award of a new fitness and recreation centre is expected within two months. The initiative, he added, includes an outdoor gym and a suite of complementary facilities.

President vows to accelerate school construction amid delays

Turning attention to education, the president acknowledged delays affecting the school development project and affirmed his commitment to accelerating its completion. He stated that residents can expect visible progress across proposed initiatives within the year, with works already commenced slated for completion the following year. He closed his address by reaffirming his dedication to the island's advancement, noting that fulfilling these promises brings him "the greatest satisfaction."

Council leaders call for urgent action on local infrastructure

At Hidhaya School, President Muizzu joined members of the Miladhoo Island Council, the women's development committee (WDC), and local institutional leaders to discuss the island's most pressing needs. The council members highlighted the absence of a permanent office facility, explaining that current operations rely on rented premises. Requests were made to expedite development projects, improve healthcare staffing levels, provide appropriate supplies for the children's park, strengthen coastal protection, rehabilitate road infrastructure, and address housing challenges.

The president assured attendees that the government would initiate a comprehensive review of all issues tabled. Cabinet ministers and heads of state-owned enterprises accompanying him provided updates on several ongoing initiatives directly affecting Miladhoo.

Groundbreaking ceremony marks start of Miladhoo police station

During the visit, the president participated in the foundation stone laying ceremony for a new police station. The event marked the official commencement of construction, a step welcomed by community leaders.

Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan officiated the ceremony alongside Police Commissioner Ismail Naveen, Fenaka Corporation Managing Director Mohamed Najaah, and the President of the Miladhoo Council. The facility, to be constructed by Fenaka Corporation, forms part of the administration's national strategy to establish police centres on every inhabited island within a two-year timeframe.

Miladhoo welcomes President Muizzu as tour progresses

Miladhoo was the tenth island visited by President Muizzu during his ongoing tour of Noonu Atoll, which spans all 13 inhabited islands between 21 and 24 July. On arrival, he received a warm welcome from residents and institutional representatives.

These visits have provided the president with opportunities to assess community living conditions directly and engage in dialogue with local councils, gathering feedback on development progress and priorities.
