Cities Minister Describes Preparing for Ramadan a Symbol of Tradition, Unity

The Minister of Cities, Local Government and Public Works Adam Shareef Umar has described the way Maldives prepares for the Holy month of Ramadan as a true symbol of the country’s culture, tradition and the unity among its people.

The Minister made these remarks after inaugurating the “Roadha Saafu” clean-up programme launched ahead of this year’s month of Ramadan.

Minister Adam Shareef said the unity among the people of Maldives is evident in such social programmes noting that Maldivians have always come together on such occasions.

"We can still see the unity among us in every such initiative. The people of Maldives have always been very united in such social efforts, working together in the same spirit. It is clearly evident from the numbers we see gathered here today,” he said.

The Roadha Saafu clean-up initiative is divided into five different groups with various ministries and state-owned companies.

Group 1 has been assigned the artificial beach area where the Road Development Corporation (RDC), Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA), Ministry of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage and Ministry of Cities, Local Government and Public Works will be working together.

Group 2 comprising the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), Maldives Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC), Ministry of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage and the Ministry of Cities, Local Government and Public Works have been assigned the Usfasgandu area.

Group 3 has been assigned the industrial zone where the Maldives PoliceService (MPS), Maldives Correctional Service, Maldives Customs Service, National Drug Agency, Ministry of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage and Ministry of Cities, Local Government and Public Works will be working to clean up the area.

Group 4 is cleaning up the Ports area with the Ministry of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage and the Ministry of Cities, Local Government and Public Works.

Group 5 will see the Maldives Gas Limited, the Ministry of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage and the Ministry of Cities, Local Government and Public Works partner up to clean-up the area around Salman Mosque.
