Public Service Media (PSM) on Wednesday selected Fonadhoo Island of Laamu Atoll to host its Eid Ufa festival.
Fonadhoo edged out 4 other islands to win the bid to host the festival. PSM held a special ceremony to officially appoint Fonadhoo Island as the host on Wednesday.
At the ceremony, Chairman of PSM Ibrahim Umar Maniku and Managing Director Ibrahim Khaleel presented the notification of award to Fonadhoo Island Council. On behalf of the council, it was received by Fonadhoo MP Abdul Raheem Abdullah and Fonadhoo Council member Ahmed Riyaz.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Managing Director of PSM Mohamed Ikram Abdul Latheef said the festival is organized to promote the country’s culture and traditions. He said that PSM would provide a full coverage of Fonadhoo’s preparations for the festival through its channels. He further announced that PSM will also hold a festival to celebrate Eid-ul-Adha.
Speaking at the event, MP Abdul Raheem expressed hope that PSM’s Eid Ufa activities will be a success. PSM’s Eid Ufa festival will include cultural and traditional events, in addition to sports events. PSM has been holding Eid Ufa festivals in the atolls for the past 4 years.
