President pledges to develop Nilandhoo to meet expectations

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that Nilandhoo Airport will be developed to meet the expectations of the residents of the island, which will be designated to cater jets and aircrafts. The remarks were made by the president while addressing the residents of Nilandhoo, Faafu Atoll.

Speaking at the gathering, President Dr. Muizzu revealed that Nilandhoo was included in the list for island development. Shedding light on the 20-year master plan formulated by the government, the president proclaimed that Nilandhoo was amongst the seven urban centres chosen for development. He assured that all the necessary facilities and conveniences will be established on the island as well.

President Dr. Muizzu pledged to enhance the facilities of the airport to the highest level of advancements, while observing the commencement of land reclamation required for the development of the airport. While disclosing that the runway will be 1,800m in length aiming to cater various types of aircrafts including jets, the president unveiled plans to establish two resorts and a city hotel. This initiative was aimed at promoting economic growth on the island.

Highlighting various developmental initiatives including the launch of the project to develop a new building for Faafu Atoll Hospital, President Dr. Muizzu provided an insight on the road development project of the island. Additionally, the president stressed the importance of securing proper sewage systems of the island, prior to the commencement of road development. He further revealed that discussions with the island council have been held, with the goal of determining roads required for development.

Underscoring the pivotal role of parliamentary cooperation, President Dr. Muizzu urged residents to cast their votes for members with similar views, who will actively support the government. On this stance, he cautioned against the potential obstacles that could arise if candidates elected do not align with the government's agenda. Noting that several projects initiated by the previous administration were halted, the president proclaimed that measures have been taken to ensure the completion of the projects. He further observed that while the budget allocated for this year would not be able to cover the finances for all the developmental projects, he aims to allocate a proper budget which will finance projects with no constraints.

Concluding his speech, President Dr. Muizzu reiterated his steadfast commitment to fulfil all the pledges outlined on the government's manifesto. The president further envisioned to completing the developmental projects of Nilandhoo showcasing tangible outcomes in a timely manner.
