New AGO building will strengthen state financial affairs: AG Niyazy

Auditor General Hussain Niyazy has emphasised the significant impact of the new Auditor General's Office (AGO) building on enhancing the state's financial affairs. He made the statement during a ceremony marking the laying of the foundation stone of the building. Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef attended the ceremony and laid the foundation stone.

Speaking at the ceremony, AG Niyazy highlighted the absence of a dedicated facility for the AGO in its 75-year history, operating instead from various government premises and currently from a private space, incurring additional state expenses. He underscored the cost-saving potential with the new building.

Additionally, AG Niyazy mentioned briefing President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on the challenges faced by the AGO and ensuring expedited progress on the new building. He also announced plans for the Institute of Chartered Accountants of the Maldives to relocate to the new premises, fostering advancements in the accounting field.

Situated adjacent to the Umar Zahir Building in Hulhumale', the USD9 million project has been contracted to the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) for completion within two years.
