Dhonadharaadha Hingun officially opened for the public after 14 years

Dhonadharaadha Hingun, which had been closed for 14 years for the use of the State Electric Company (STELCO) has now officially been reopened to the public. The street, initially closed in 2010, is located in Ameenee Magu, next to STELCO's head office. STELCO's 17 engines, which were previously stored there, have now been relocated to Hulhumale after the inauguration.

The reopening ceremony was officiated by the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, Mohamed Ameen, along with STELCO's Managing Director, Hussain Fahumee.

During the inauguration, Minister Ameen highlighted the persistent traffic issues in Male' City. However, he also affirmed that the current administration has taken measures to address this, including the nullification of registrations for illegal vehicles and the removal of deteriorated vehicles from the roads. Minister Ameen commended STELCO for its continuous efforts to meet the needs of the residents.

In his address, Director Fahumee emphasised that the reopening of Dhonadharaadha Hingun was carried out under the guidance of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, who is dedicated to the welfare of the community. Fahumee stated that USD 311.7 million was allocated from STELCO's budget for the reopening project.

Dhonadharaadha Hingun was initially closed to accommodate the expansion of the current department and to address delays in the "Fourth Power Project," which aimed to increase overall capacity. The reopening project, initiated on December 17, 2023, is designed to alleviate traffic issues, and a pedway bridge has been constructed on both sides of the road connected to the STELCO building.
