Funadhoo ice plant to be completed within three months: Gov't

Minister of Fisheries and Ocean Resources Ahmed Shiyam has announced that the establishment of an ice plant in Funadhoo will commence following the month of Ramadan. He made the remarks while speaking at a gathering with the residents of Funadhoo, during President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's visit to Shaviyani Atoll.

Speaking at the gathering, Minister Shiyam outlined the plans of the fisheries ministry for Funadhoo. He noted the longstanding demand from fishermen in Funadhoo and Shaviyani Atoll for an ice plant in the region, confirming that construction preparations will be underway by the conclusion of Ramadan, with a targeted completion timeline of three months.

Additionally, Minister Shiyam addressed the community's desire to have a fishing vessel stationed near Funadhoo, given its significance as a fishing hub. He assured that arrangements for this would be finalised within the upcoming week. He also highlighted the island's potential for maricultural development, indicating ongoing assessments of the opportunities in this domain.

Furthermore, Minister Shiyam emphasised President Dr. Muizzu's vision for citizen-centred development upon assuming office. He stressed the importance of parliamentary support in realising the vision, asserting that key legislative amendments crucial for progress can only be achieved through a cooperative parliament aligned with the government's objectives.
